A Travellerspoint blog

2 Countries in one day and it's only day 1

Exhausted and can't wait to go to bed!

overcast 60 °F

Left Minneapolis at 1pm on Saturday - got to Philly with no problems - a titch bumpy but not really a problem. Philly airport on the other hand was a nightmare! Crazy busy! and I think there are more people here in Germany that speak English than in the entire Philly airport! My favorite was the cute black woman with a white blonde wig who was clearly from the Bahamas and checking passports. Yikes! She was hard to understand and hard not to stare at! lol!

Okay so - Philly airport is packed with people, our flight is about 1 hour late leaving. BUT I found my travel partner, Brenda so I was thrilled! We landed in Zurich pretty close to on time even though we left an hour late. Johannes (Barix CEO) was awaiting our arrival at the airport! YAY! The flight was good - I watched a portion of 3 movies... got about maybe an hour of sleep and I was beat! Johannes wisked us off to his home where he was kind enough to let us catch up on e-mails, facebook and whatever else and let us crash out for a few hours. We had about 8 hours until we caught a bus to Black Forest after all! Johannes and his wife, Barbara made a very nice brunch with fresh fruit, some kind of a oatmeal/fruit thing that was wonderful and eggs. Lovely and very tasty!

So anyway - we arrive and it is POURING rain and fog-a-rific! Can't really see much of the town, alps or sights cuz the fog was so thick. I know JR and Barbara have a beautiful view of Lake Zurich from their home - I have pictures but am just tooo tired to post them here yet.

So - we caught the bus (a chartered bus) and it was about 1.5 hour ride. Went over the Rhine River and into Germany! 2 countries in 1 day! wow! Arrived about 6:00pm and started right in with a brief ice breaker meeting to get to know everyone... probably about 30 of us here. Then off to the next room for dinner. A dinner packed with local favorites. Black Forest Ham, some other unknown meats and I overheard one woman say there was sausage made of pigs blood.... nope I did NOT try that!!! yikes. Thanks, but NO thanks!!!
Then Black Forest Cake for dessert! YUMMMMIE!

The town looks adorable... I hope we have time to do some exploring! We'll see.

K... off to bed... I'm exhausted and we start again in 8 hours! Auf Wiedersehen.
